The Department of Fine Arts offers instruction in Art, Music, Entertainment Industry Studies, and Theatre, all exclusively available at the Senatobia campus. Subject-specific degree plans can be accessed on myNWCC (click the Degree Plans tab). Students should contact their advisors for detailed information.
Art
Aspiring artists at Northwest follow a dedicated degree plan, developing their portfolios and showcasing their work through the Les Fauves Art Club and a culminating Sophomore exhibition. Instruction is provided by professionals who are active practitioners in the arts, both at the college and in the surrounding communities. The comprehensive two-year art degree plan (major) at NWCC is designed to equip students with the necessary skills and knowledge to seamlessly transfer into a four-year college or university and complete their undergraduate art studies.
ALL STUDENTS enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College, whether majoring in art or not, are welcome to take art courses.
Music
The NWCC Music Department provides advanced vocal and instrumental music instruction. Students passionate about music often enhance their college experience by participating in our diverse choral and instrumental ensembles. (See the choir and band websites for detailed information on ensembles and audition procedures.) For students aspiring to music careers, NWCC offers a comprehensive two-year music degree plan (major) is designed to prepare them for transfer to a four-year college or university. This pathway allows students to complete the final two years of an undergraduate degree in the music-emphasis area. Our instructors are actively performing professionals who are also in demand as clinicians and adjudicators.
ALL STUDENTS enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College, whether majoring in music or not, are welcome to audition for any of the vocal or instrumental ensembles offered.
Theatre
The highly acclaimed Northwest Theatre Department provides students with a strong foundation in all aspects of theatre education, from acting and performance to design and production. Students gain comprehensive knowledge and hands-on experience, allowing them to identify their strengths before transferring to a university. With direct pathways to all Mississippi universities and strong regional connections, Northwest theatre students are highly recruited for their exceptional training. Our typical season includes a Fall Musical, a Winter comedy or drama, and a Spring comedy or drama. Students can choose between two specialized degree plan options: Musical Theatre and Theatre. The department actively participates in the Mississippi Theatre Association annual festival, the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival, and the National Association of Teachers of Singing vocal competition. Additionally, the department sponsors the Northwest Players Club, a campus group fostering interest in theatre and developing dramatic talents, and The NWCC Improvisers, an improv group that meets weekly to encourage artistic expression and strengthen acting techniques. Our instructors are actively involved theatre professionals in the surrounding areas.
ALL STUDENTS enrolled at Northwest Mississippi Community College are welcome to participate in Northwest Theatre productions. Whether majoring in theatre or not, you are most welcome to audition and take theatre courses.
